Prep time: 15 mins | Rise time: 60 mins | Cook time: 10–15 mins | Servings: 6–8 pieces
Ingredients
- The Dough:
- 500 grams (approx. 4 cups) all-purpose flour.
- 300 ml warm milk.
- 10 grams dry yeast.
- 50 ml oil.
- 1 tsp sugar and 1 tsp salt.
- The Filling:
- 200 grams cheese (such as mozzarella or feta), grated or cubed.
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Mix: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and the oil.
- Knead: Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for about 5–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Incorporate Cheese: Gently punch down the dough. You can either knead the grated cheese directly into the dough or divide the dough into balls and stuff a cube of cheese into the center of each.
- Shape: Form the dough into rounds or a loaf, depending on your preference.
- Cook: Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-low heat. Place the dough rounds in the pan and cook for 4–6 minutes per side until the bread is puffed and the exterior is golden-brown and slightly crisp. (Alternatively, bake at 375°F for 15–20 minutes).
- Serve: Best enjoyed warm while the cheese inside is soft and gooey.
