Cheesy Potatoes with Smoked Sausage

Ingredients

  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 4 large russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or milk)
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Layer the potatoes: Arrange half of the thinly sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. Add sausage and cheese: Place half of the smoked sausage slices over the potatoes and sprinkle with half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Repeat layers: Add the remaining potato slices on top, followed by the rest of the sausage slices.
  5. Season: In a small bowl, mix the heavy cream, melted butter, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, then pour this mixture evenly over the casserole.
  6. Bake covered: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  7. Finish and melt: Remove the foil, top with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese, and bake uncovered for another 15 to 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is golden and bubbling. Let cool slightly before serving.
