Homemade Orange Candy

Ingredients

  • The Citrus Base:
    • 3 medium oranges (zested and juiced to make about ¾ cup juice).
  • The Syrup:
    • 1 cup granulated sugar.
    • ½ cup corn syrup.
  • The Setting Agents:
    • 1 tbsp gelatin.
    • ¼ cup water.
    • 1 tbsp butter.
  • The Finish:
    • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar (for dusting).

Instructions

  1. Extract Flavor: Zest and juice the oranges to collect approximately ¾ cup of juice.
  2. Boil the Base: In a saucepan, combine the fresh orange juice, water, granulated sugar, and corn syrup. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Bloom Gelatin: Bloom the gelatin in ¼ cup of cold water, then add it to the hot orange syrup mixture.
  4. Thicken: Stir in the orange zest and butter. Continue to cook the mixture for 5–10 minutes until it thickens significantly.
  5. Set: Pour the thickened mixture into a dish and chill in the refrigerator for 4–6 hours or overnight until completely firm.
  6. Shape and Dust: Cut the set candy into individual pieces and dust them thoroughly with confectioners’ sugar.
