Prep time: 15 mins | Cook time: 40 mins | Servings: 6
Ingredients
- The Steaks:
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 cup crushed crackers (saltines or Ritz)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp onion powder and 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- The Gravy:
- 2 cans (10.5 oz each) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup milk or beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Garnish: Fresh chopped parsley
Instructions
- Prepare the Steaks: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, crushed crackers, eggs, milk, and seasonings. Mix until just combined and form into 6 to 8 oval-shaped patties.
- Sear: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, sear the patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. They don’t need to be cooked through yet; the oven will finish the job.
- Assemble: Place the seared patties in a lightly greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Make Sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together the mushroom soup, milk (or broth), and Worcestershire sauce. Pour this mixture evenly over the steaks.
- Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the gravy is bubbly and the meat is fully cooked.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley. This dish is traditionally served over a bed of mashed potatoes or egg noodles to catch every drop of that delicious gravy.
