- 500 g ground beef
- 5–6 medium potatoes (peeled & thinly sliced)
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
Seasoning
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp dried thyme or oregano
Sauce (simple & creamy)
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup cooking cream (or evaporated milk)
- 1 tbsp flour
- Optional: 2 tbsp tomato sauce (for color & depth)
Cheese
- 1½–2 cups shredded cheese
(mozzarella, cheddar, or mix)
🔪 Instructions
1️⃣ Prep the Potatoes
- Slice potatoes thin (important for even cooking)
- Optional: parboil 5 minutes, then drain (faster bake)
2️⃣ Cook the Beef
- Heat oil in a pan
- Add onion → cook until soft
- Add garlic → 30 seconds
- Add ground beef + seasoning
- Cook until browned and juicy
- Stir in tomato sauce if using
3️⃣ Make the Sauce
- In a bowl, whisk milk + cream + flour
- Season lightly with salt & pepper
4️⃣ Assemble the Casserole
Grease a baking dish, then layer:
- Potatoes
- Beef mixture
- A little sauce
- Cheese
➡️ Repeat layers
➡️ Finish with cheese on top 🧀
5️⃣ Bake
- Cover with foil
- Bake at 190°C (375°F) for 35 minutes
- Remove foil and bake 15–20 minutes
- Until golden, bubbly, and fork-tender
6️⃣ Rest & Serve
- Rest 5–10 minutes before slicing
- Serve hot with salad or bread
